Fishing

20171007_163219_resized

I love to fish. It started when I was a kid, fishing from a tinnie with my brother and sister. Then we progressed to rock fishing off the cliffs, with my mates, a couple of early mornings each week before school. We used to get some terrific Bream and Kingfish. When I travelled around Australia as a young bloke, I did a lot of deep sea fishing in Exmouth Gulf and all over the place. I also love a bit of bush fly fishing. Then a couple of years ago, at 52 years old, I bought my dream boat. A 1955 30 ft timber lobster trawler. I’ll tell you all about that on another day because it’s a great story.

Saddles and Bridles

I do a bit of horse riding, which I learnt from my grandfather. I love the tack room that hold the saddles and bridles, as it reminds me of my grandfather’s farm. [scotty_sign] ... [read more]

Zyliss Classic Food Chopper

A couple of weeks ago I did have a Zyliss sort of onion-puller thing which I struggled with a little bit. I found another gadget from Zyliss in the cupboard, I forgot about it, I’ve had it for like 10 years! It chops up onions.

Chop an onion in half, stick the chopper over the top and just slap down on it a couple of times. Perfectly diced onions.

You can find the chopper on the Kitchen Warehouse website

The Easy Pull

It’s gadget time again! This one comes from Zyliss and it’s called the ‘Easy Pull.’ I’ve never used it before, it’s the first time, so I’m giving it a bit of a crack.

Cut the onion in half, take the lid off, just pop it in and give it an easy pull. As you can see though, it takes a few chops to get it working properly. The mob from Zyliss aren’t going to be too happy with me!

Mango Peeler & Pipper

I found this bloke when I was out shopping for a birthday present and thought it was fantastic. They’re great if you’re struggling for Mother’s Day gift ideas, too.

It’s so simple to use, just put the mango straight in the base and place the blade right over the top of it. Push down, and the blade cuts right around the pip. All that’s left to do is to munch down on the mango, I love it.

My favourite book

a-fortunate-life

Born in 1894, Facey lived the rough frontier life of a sheep farmer, survived the gore of Gallipoli, raised a family through the Depression and spent sixty years with his beloved wife, Evelyn. Despite enduring hardships we can barely imagine today, Facey always saw his life as a ‘fortunate’ one. A true classic of Australian literature, his simply written autobiography is an inspiration. It is the story of a life lived to the full – the extraordinary journey of an ordinary man.

Gotta be my favourite book of all time. A great Aussie story.
